Second annual report published
The report covering the period from May 2020 to August 2021 has just been published, summarizing the activities and achievements of The Illiberal Turn during this time. The report provides a snapshot of some of the most interesting results stemming from both the quantitative and qualitative strands of the data analysis. Outcomes from population and expert surveys include perceived independence and bias of the key news media brands in our four countries, the extent of their polarization on the ideological and political spectrum, as well as the most prevalent news media “repertoires” in each country – that is, clusters of media brands that individual citizens most commonly use as their sources of news. Findings from the interviews (carried out over the first wave of the pandemic) focus on audience engagement with COVID-19 news, on the dynamics of public trust in experts and science, as well as on people’s attitudes to immigration and their relationship with media use.
The report further lists dissemination and impact activities over the second project year, and outlines plans for the remaining duration of the project, which has been extended due to the pandemic until May 2022.
